Hide and Gus Seek

We have the biggest time playing hide and seek with Gus. We play it quite often, and Blair directs who hides and who finds. We all take turns hiding with Gus, finding with Gus, or having Gus find all of us. Playing at Gigi’s is more fun because her house has more hiding spots. On Memorial Day, we went outside first thing in the morning and played in our jammies. It was a blast.

One of our hiding spots – a patio furniture box we saved for the kids.

Gus has gotten the gist of hide and Gus seek. He sits pretty patiently waiting on us to hide.

He may peek a little.

He’s a good seeker!

And Blair does too. She just loves it. She told her daddy that “we played hide and seek for a LONG time outside today!”

Leighton Eats.

The boy eats. That’s about all I need to say. He eats pretty much whatever I put on his tray – but in HIS order. His little hands and finger are very meticulous when it comes to choosing his foods! I have to hold off on giving him some things because of how he chooses. He’ll get full on bread if I let him. He’s very picky about what to eat when. He’ll move one thing around to get to another. Bread, meat, blueberries, and blackberries all take front seat. Then he likes broccoli and other green things. He’ll eat sweet potatoes and other yellow or orange fruits last usually, except oranges. He loves oranges. In the morning, he’ll drop anything for eggs.

He loves eating out too. Obviously.

And then he cries when ice cream is over.

Don’t worry. I bought more. :)

Memorial Day

We had a beautiful Memorial Day morning today, and my children slept until 7:30! I got to spend a little me time outside with a book and coffee. It was like 20 minutes, but I’ll take it!

The Lions Club puts flags up all over town for $25 a year per household, so our town looks really neat on patriotic holidays. The flags were up all weekend, so I had plenty of opportunities to talk to Blair about Memorial Day. She doesn’t understand about freedom really, but I still try to explain it to her. I went through the whole spiel three times yesterday alone!

This is my Papa Dock. Both of my grandfathers served in the armed forces. I’m so proud of them and thankful for ALL of those who have served and are serving. We are blessed to have people who make such sacrifices for us and our country.

Swim.

Words can’t describe the elation this little girl felt on her first swim of 2013.

Nutter Butter Ballet Shoe Cookies

I made the Santa Nutter Butters for Blair’s ballet Christmas party… and then she got sick and couldn’t go. She was so disappointed! She kept asking about those cookies and going to the party, and on and on.

When I was planning for the end of the year party, I figured I could do some Nutter Butter ballet slippers. A quick google search showed me that some people had already tried it, and they looked pretty cute!

I let Blair help me with these. It was a pretty good project for her to help with. She kept talking about how she was the “cookie person” and the “scissor person” and that she had 3 jobs and I had 2. She loved it.

I’m just not crazy about the taste of the pink melting pieces from Wilton, so I melted two bags of Ghirardelli White Chips and added a touch of pink food coloring.

Blair cut open the package of cookies (the scissor person). She was also the “cookie dropper.” She dropped the cookies one by one in the chocolate. The cookie turner job was a little too tedious for her, so I became the fork person.

We dropped the cookie in, flipped over with the fork to cover well, brought it out of the chocolate, let the excess drip, and scraped the bottom (Blair’s other job).

I put them on wire racks, but you can do wax paper as well.

The next day, I decorated them with white icing. I just used a premade icing so it would be easy, but those bags are a bit difficult to maneuver! The bows aren’t perfect, but for a 3 – 4 year old dance party, they were fine!

Red Clover

We got to go visit some of our good friends recently and played in their beautiful red clover! We’re so thankful for our Farm Bureau friends. Our Young Farmer committee time was such a wonderful experience for us.

Both these babies had a good time on our visit!

Leighton’s glad to have them too. Since they added to his meals for the day!

Trophy Girl

We’ve gotten two trophies in the last week… for tball and for dance! Blair wasn’t all that interested in tball this year, but she says she’s going to play again. Dance on the other hand has been great. She loves it!

We ended up our tball season Monday night at the ball field. We had a quick hot dog supper and then a trophy presentation. I don’t know that Blair even knows what a trophy is!
