Date Night

Last weekend Brad and I went out for the first time in I don’t know how long. We love to go out to supper, but we don’t do a very good job of making time to do it. It just takes so long! By so long, I mean that any halfway decent place to eat is about an hour from here. That’s a long way for a meal! But, we made the drive last week to try a restaurant to which we’d never been, Trellis.

I think Trellis is fairly new. I checked out their menu online, and it looked like something I would like – in fact, it was really similar to some of my favorite places’ menus. All of my very favorite restaurants are well over an hour away, so we needed something a little closer, and this one fit the bill.

Brad and I both had the mixed green salad with goat cheese – yum! For our entrees, Brad had the rib eye, and I had pork tenderloin with apples and “whipped” sweet potatoes. (These pictures are not good. I didn’t want to use the flash, so I had to open the aperture way up and so on… It was great for the picture above, but the others are just not that great, but oh well. Brad would have been mortified if I had stood up and gotten over his food just to take a picture of it.)

Brad’s steak was super tender and very good. I loved my dish too. It was different, but it was delicious. The apples were a perfect pair for the pork and potatoes. I like fruit with a savory meal. However, I’m not crazy about fruit desserts. That doesn’t make much sense to me. I usually don’t make much sense though.

For dessert, we both had crème brûlée. There were about 5 things I wanted to order, but neither one of us can pass up a crème brûlée. This one was good. It wasn’t quite as good as the vanilla bean crème brûlée I make (or my mom’s – ours are very similar), but I would order this one again – unless maybe I got the tiramisu or the avocado ice cream or maybe… oh, who knows!

If you live around here and want to do a casual place with good food, Trellis is worth a shot! We had fun! (Except that I slept almost all the way home. I always do that, and Brad does not like that part about our dates!)

Date nights are awesome. We're like ya'll... We're an hour from town, and then an hour from our folks. So it;s not just easy to just up and decide we're going to go out. :)
