Watermelon Graveyard

Blair and I went out Sunday to the last of the unplowed watermelon fields to get some watermelons for the chickens. There really aren’t any that are suitable for us to eat, but there are plenty that they chickens will like just fine! Out of all the things I feed them from my kitchen, they like watermelon the best – and peach peels.

Normally, I call the place where they dump the “dead” watermelons during season the watermelon graveyard, but I couldn’t think of a better term for this dried up field we went to today.

Blair found a watermelon she liked. She has a word that she calls them, but I have no idea how to spell it!

I found several for the chickens and they have eaten just about all of the first one. I guess they’re going to be sad when we don’t have anymore because I don’t think I’ll be buying them for them.
