Blessings in Disguise

When Blair was sick over the new year, I worried myself sick that she was going to end up on a ventilator in the hospital. I did. But we prayed through it, and you would not believe that now she is so much better than she was before she was sick! It's almost a blessing she was sick and had to take that steroid, because we think that might have given her just the oomph she needed.

The most obvious difference is that instead of waking up every single morning at 6am coughing and throwing up, she sleeps until 8! And no coughing when she gets up. (She coughed a little the last two mornings, but I am hoping it's allergy related. My allergies are out of control right now.) Her lungs sound great, and she is wheezing very rarely. In fact, up until yesterday, she had gone two days in a row several times without having albuterol at all! We were giving her at least two treatments a day before she got sick. She's also needing very little, if any oxygen at night (We still use it, but she pulls it off sometimes, and the monitor never goes off.)

She's also eating like never before. Let me clarify. Her three food groups are still carrots, yogurt, and chocolate, but she's drinking more Pediasure per day than ever. We like 24 ounces a day or more at
30 calories per ounce! During the 10 days between her followup appointment for her cold and her RSV prevention shot (shots actually, she's too big to just get one now) this week, she gained 11 ounces!

We're praying that she continues to do as well and that these last couple of days of coughing is not the beginning of the pre-sick Blair again. The last two weeks of non-wheezing, non-coughing, non-throwing up bliss have surely been nice for us and even more for Blair, I'm sure!

As terrible as it is, the one good thing about a baby being sick is that it REALLY makes you appreciate the days when she isn't sick! Glad to hear of Blair's improvements! Go, Blair, Go!

Isn't it funny how God answers our prayers in the most unusual ways sometimes? I am so glad she is doing so well!
