Daddy's Girls

Brad's dog Sadie was the sweetest dog I have ever met. Last Tuesday, she passed away after 13 years of having Brad as her person. Even though I knew Sadie for a much shorter period of time, I was heartbroken. I loved how she "danced" back and forth on her front feet when I came home. Until she got too old, Sadie used to walk with me, and I took her swimming with the other two dogs. She did get to go on the first walk with Blair and me. I didn't know she was following us, and by the time I looked back and saw her waddling down the road, we were about to turn to go back home anyway.

She and Blair got to meet face to face, and Sadie gave Blair a good sniff. It looks like Blair is eying Sadie's bone! Blair could have tried to get it, but it would never happen. At 13, Sadie had lightening reflexes to grab and go if someone came near her bone!

I got your nose!

Over the past week, I had the privilege of watching Blair learn to reach and grab things. Until now, she grabbed whatever her hands ran into! Last Friday, I noticed that she was staring at a star on the tray of the exersaucer. The star was on her right, but her left hand was clumsily making its way across her body towards it -- and not coming anywhere near it! Then her right hand would wave around all on top of the star. I think she finally touched it once that day. For about the next five days, each day she got better at directing her hands to something she was actually looking at. She batted at things for a day or so, and by Thursday she was reaching, grabbing, and holding with both hands. She even reached for a toy with both hands at the same time, took it from me, and squeezed it right to her mouth -- where everything goes these days!

Last night, we did her breathing treatments and tried the mask for the first time. She did great! Afterwards, I was talking to her really close. She was looking at me and smiling, and then she reached out and grabbed my nose! What simple things can make a parent so proud.

This is my best attempt to take a quick picture of the two of us.

I am enjoying every minute watching Blair grow and learn new things and am so thankful I'm at home to see her do it. It makes me teary to think about how God has blessed us so through our little miracle!

My Daddy's Tractor

Today, I rode on my Daddy's tractor for the first time! It was fun! We pulled dirt around ALL over a field. At first, the bouncing put me right to sleep. Then, I ate. Every two hours, I pretend like my Mommy starves me, so she always has to plan accordingly! After that, Daddy let me drive!

We listened to good music, too. I looked around everywhere outside and inside. The black buttons and knobs were my favorite. Daddy even found me a good place to sit over on the side.

It will be watermelon season before we know it. Yay!

The Lean and Bonk

Today Blair rolled over from her tummy to her back for the first time. It's more like a lean to the side and bonk her head on the floor before going flat on her back. I was laughing uncontrollably at her during the whole thing.

Lean...

... and bonk. Ta-daaa!

I can't believe I did that!

Hogtied

There may be lots of folks who have seen a dog do this, but I had not until Gus. This is how he sleeps.

Exploring New Ground

I didn't cry, but Mommy came to the rescue when I didn't know what else to do!

Hmm... maybe I'll wait a while before I become an acrobat.

Treatments and TV

Blair goes through phases. Sometimes she doesn't mind breathing treatments, and other times she bats at the nebulizer and grunts at me angrily. If there is entertainment though, we don't seem to have a problem. We read, eat, watch the mobile, and watch tv. I realized that she would watch tv when Kung Fu Panda was on one night while I was doing a nebulizer treatment. She was mesmerized during the beginning when the panda is dreaming.

Here she is about to break her neck to see the tv! It was so funny!

One night for treatment entertainment I read her some books. She really had a fit over the cow in Goodnight Moon. She talked to it and smiled at it. It was precious.

We like it when tv allows a little bit of tummy time!

Four Months Already?

That's almost half a year! I JUST wrote the three month post like yesterday! Wow. We've had a good fourth month. Blair is really enjoying her toys, especially the ones with lights. We have a good routine when we don't have to go to the doctor. She takes a nap, sometimes only 20 minutes, between every feeding. She looks for her pacifier, I give it to her, put her in her bed, and she goes to sleep. It's so easy! She still eats about every two hours (3 - 4 ounces) -- hardly going a minute longer, except at night. She goes to sleep around 8 or 9, and I wake her up to feed her before I go to bed. About half the time she gets up at 3am and then again around 6am. It's not so bad, because she goes right back to sleep.

Last night she had me laughing so hard. Whatever I did, she just beamed. And then she cooed some and beamed some more. She does the same thing when I look over in her bed in the mornings. It melts my heart.

Blair's Best Bud

Gus usually ignores Blair, but when we leave the house and come back, he doesn't hesitate to give her a good sniff to make sure I brought back the right baby! I can tell he loves her.

Yep, that's her.

And she shares her pillow. She loves me.

And this is how I tell her I love her.

I think Gus' favorite time of day is when we play in Blair's room. He loves that we are both on the floor at his level.

Hey, Gus!

And, Blair's rug is his one of his favorite places!

Who Needs a Rattle?

I guess I'll try to avoid hate mail from my family and think of something to post! We haven't been doing much lately, but I want to keep posting even small things. I'm planning to publish the blog in a book for Blair at some point, so she can see all the fun times we have and how blessed we are to have her!

We went to the doctor this week, and he said Blair sounded good. She is still on oxygen, and we haven't had any talk of when she might be able to go without it. I think it's going to be a while. I snapped this picture when I was changing her nasal cannula this week. Blair looks so different without it. It's like seeing someone for the first time without glasses or a beard! She is gaining weight pretty well - almost an ounce a day for the past few weeks. She weighed 9 lb 6 oz this week. Next week will be the very first week since we've been home that we won't go to the doctor -- yay! But that means I'll have to find something to do, so I don't drive myself batty after 14 days straight in my house.

Blair is "getting big" as her daddy says. Her little hands are twice the size they used to be. She's become so active, too. She kicks around in the tub now. She still loves bathtime, and she still screams when I get her out. We'll keep working on it, I guess!

Look at that sweet smile!

She batted at a lion hanging on the crib the other day. I think she did it on purpose, and that would be the first time I have noticed her reaching for something. She usually gets a hold of whatever is near her hands -- like her pacifier. She treats it like a rattle. She grabs it and slings it all around and usually ends up throwing it somewhere.

Yay, it's a toy!

Which way should I hurl it?

Her tubing is her other favorite thing to hold on to. Tonight, she had it in both hands, trying to get it in her mouth, laughing the whole time. I was laughing out loud with her!

She's not abused. I can't figure out why the tape breaks her out sometimes.

¡Patata!

In Spain, when posing for a picture they say "patata" (potato) instead of "queso" (cheese). I don't know that "patata" gives the best mouth position for a photo, but that's the word. In Mexico, they say "whiskey," which I think may give more of the look of a smile, but who knows where that came from! Just a little teacher moment; I must miss it more than I thought!

Blair just had her first non-mommy photo session! Today, Amy from Hiley Creative Photography came to our house to do some pictures. We had a great time. We caught Blair at the perfect time, and she was really good. For almost an hour, she quietly tolerated all of the places we put her and even gave us a few smiles. I did want to get some naked baby pictures, but mommy pushed her a little to long without her clothes -- she tee teed on my leg! I guess better there than the sofa!

Amy got some great shots; here's one!
